“This is a film that could change the foundation of medical training and practice. Both doctors and patients need to see it if we want a chance at a healthier health care system. If we want more fully informed doctors that have incentives to practice prevention, we need more films like this one,” said Malynn Utzinger, MD. and co-producer.
“We’re delighted to have Kathleen on the coalition. Her work is superb and both films are eye opening,” said Dr. Greg Tefft, co-founder of the Just Say “Know” to Prescription Drugs Campaign.
The campaign decided to make the films available to the public after seeing how powerfully they communicate the main message of the initiative. “I can’t imagine a more compelling way to drive home the idea that we all need to be proactive about the medications we are taking and giving to our children,” said Dr. Dominick Riccio, chairman of the Just Say “Know” to Prescription Drugs initiative. “These films are simply riveting.”
The screenings are part of an initiative aimed at getting one million people and one million parents to take a second look at the prescription medications they are taking and giving their children. Participants will be encouraged to download a form that allows them to thoughtfully evaluate the drugs they are taking or giving to their children. The form collects specific information from their prescribing physician, pharmacist or healthcare provider and requests the provider’s signature attesting that they have fully informed the patient or parent of the risks and benefits of the prescribed medication, as well as non-drug alternatives.
Coalition members have declared October "Just Say ‘Know’ to Prescription Drugs Month" and have scheduled a conference in Washington, D.C. on October 7th to officially launch the campaign. Information about the conference and the location of the film screenings is available at http://www.icspp.org
Organizations and individuals who want to participate in the campaign may go to any of the following Web sites, look for the Just Say “Know” to Prescription Drugs logo, and download the sheet titled "Take This Form and Sign It." Instructions are provided on each form.
