    SPECIAL REPORT: Drugging Your Children

In one generation, the most common behaviors associated with children and teens, those which bother teachers and parents most, have been labeled a "disease." However, twenty five years of research, has failed to validate that ADD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or oppositional defiant disorder are diseases that require medical intervention. Tragically--the "epidemic" of medicalizing unwanted child behavior has grown from 500 thousand in 1985 to between 5 and 7 million today.

The Just say Know to Prescription Drug Campaign's Drugging Children Series began with a simple question:

Has something really changed in the brains of our children in one generation that medication is now required to address?

In search of answers we interviewed a child neurologist, a practicing pediatrician, and a nurse who put her son on Paxil, struggled to get him off then made drugging children as well as adults a personal crusade. Before you consider treating your child's behavior with medications, tune in now to this brief yet eye opening series.

    SECIAL REPORT: The Zyprexa Series

When seven people in the Chicago, Illinois died after taking Extra Strength Tylenol which had been laced with cyanide, the incident led to a series of immediate actions.

Urgent warnings were broadcast, and police drove through Chicago neighborhoods issuing warnings over loudspeakers. Johnson & Johnson, the parent company of the Tylenol brand, distributed warnings to hospitals and distributors and halted Tylenol production and advertising. On October 5, 1982, it issued a nationwide recall of Tylenol products; an estimated 31 million bottles were in circulation, with a retail value of over US$100 million. The company also advertised in the national media for individuals not to consume any products that contained Tylenol. As a result of the scare the market share of Tylenol collapsed from 35% to 8%.

The Just say Know to Prescription Drug Campaign's Zyprexa Series began with a simple question. How is it that Zyprexa, which has been linked to more than several deaths, and has paid out settlements of over one billion dollars to people affected by the drug, is still selling briskly and being prescribed everyday?

In search of answers we interviewed a doctor who routinely prescribes Zxprexa, a woman whose son suddenly slipped in to a comma and died while on Zyprexa, and Jim Gottstein, the attorney at the center of the Zyprexa legal controversy.

We asked some simple but pointed questions:

    • What are people who are being prescribed Zyprexa being told about the drug?
    • How can a prescription drug be held financially liable for injuring people yet remain on the market?
    • What are the benefits, advantages and alternatives to Zyprexa?

In short...What do you need to know about Zyprexa? Tune in now to this brief yet eye opening series.
